Connection, in a world of our own

Supportive virtual spaces where we can be ourselves.

Chronic illness, neurodivergence, and stigma can create substantial barriers to social connection and friendship. We create spaces where we can overcome those barriers.

Second Haven is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, online community, and facilitated Minecraft server.

Why Second Haven exists

Getting together isn’t always simple.

Chronic illness, disability, anxiety, stigma, or a difficult season of life can put everyday social spaces and human connection out of reach. Fatigue, pain, and brain fog can make it impossible to leave the house or participate in conversation.

Second Haven creates virtual community spaces for people with barriers to ordinary connection. In our shared virtual worlds, we can create together, enjoy quiet moments by virtual campfires, explore beautiful landscapes, play games, or go on adventures with people who understand that our energy can fluctuate quite a lot.

Discover what’s taking shape

Belonging, on your terms

Different ways of showing up.
The same warm welcome.

We serve teens and adults who live with chronic illness or disability, neurodivergent gifts, stigmatized identities, or circumstances that hinder social contact and make friendships harder to maintain.

Every pace is welcome.

Members can come and go as their energy allows. Signing up for group activity is not an obligation. Starting a big build is not a promise.

Quiet participation is welcome.

Members can connect through voice channels, text, shared activities, or shared locations. All communication styles are honored, and limited capacity is fully respected.

Just being present is welcome.

While many community members enjoy contributing creative builds, games, and ideas, it's also okay to just be.

Curiosity meets care

Informed by research.
Guided by lived experience.

Our approach draws on research into social connection, online friendships, and belonging. We’re also asking how to understand and improve the experiences of our own community.

Help make room for more people

Belonging is something
we build together.

Your time, partnership, or financial support can help keep this world welcoming and growing.
